Instructor: Michael Britton

Michael Britton is a New York City trained artist (New York Academy of Art) who has taught several thousand artists (some of whom have gone on to full-time art careers as painters and teachers) in his several decades long career.

Michael takes you step-by-step through the entire creative process encapsulating the fundamental truths of painting: drawing, design, value, colour, edges, paint manipulation, contrast and, above all, unity.

Painting the portrait in watercolor takes a significantly different approach than that in oil or acrylic. Learn to paint  fresh portraits that breathe life. Beginning with a blue underpainting and building up translucent flesh tones with alternating warm and cool washes you will learn the process of realist watercolour painting while also learning how to manipulate your paint and washes to both define the features and  the expression.

Michael has taught both figure and portrait watercolour for many years at the Vancouver Academy of Art, Canada plus many venues in the United States. He achieved international recognition for his life-size watercolour figure paintings.
