Batik Handkerchief Painting Workshop

Batik Handkerchief Painting Workshop 2023

[25 February 2023, Saturday]

What is Batik?

Originated from Java, Indonesia, Batik is a traditional art formed by a unique wax-resist dyeing technique.

Batik has become a means of artistic expression for many people in Asia and has become deeply entrenched in the Asian culture. Batik is done when hot wax beads or blocks are melted over fire. The hot wax is then scooped up with the canting and used to draw on the fabric. Fabric dyes is then painted on the fabric, with the applied wax resisting the dyes. When the colouring is completed, remove the applied wax by submerging the cloth in boiling water, hairdryer or using an iron to melt the wax.

This workshop requires no formal knowledge or background in art, we ask only for your passion and interest in the subject. Batik painting is a unique heritage of Southeast Asia and produces wonderful results. Not only is Batik easy to learn, but anyone can use the technique to produce beautiful pieces of art. Not to mention, during our workshop, you will be introduced to such techniques by our professionally trained teachers. Our instructor will demonstrate how to use the wax before guiding the students individually to avoid confusion. Furthermore, you’ll receive step by step guidance from the teachers to create exactly what you envisioned.
