Teens Professional Intensive Bootcamp - Till August 2023 holidays (8 sessions)

Registrations are open for July – December holiday art classes for teenagers! Join Visual Arts Centre’s Holiday Professional Intensive Bootcamps on Drawing and Sketching / Acrylic and Watercolour painting mediums ! Pick up new art skills to brush up your techniques, learn new art mediums, experiment and cultivate your creativity during the school holidays!

For teens between 10 – 18 years old

At ages between 10 – 18 years old, students may have already cemented their interest in art or are even considering to pursue art deeper by applying to an art school. This would require a strong art portfolio with unique works that demonstrates their skills, creativity and artistic style. Thus, it will definitely help that they attend classes guided by experienced professionals to hone their skills and mastery on various art mediums.

At Visual Arts Centre, we provide students with opportunities to develop artistic knowledge and skills. We offer a full range of mediums for students to explore and learn with us and help them to release their creative juices and be independent in their learning.

Our Approaches:

We believe that each child learns at a different pace. Thus, each class will be conducted at your teen’s individual preferences and abilities. No workshop-style classes nor classroom styled teaching! Despite being in class with other students, your child will be taught according to their preferred mediums and will be given individual guidance by our professional instructors and studio assistants in regular intervals during the duration of each class.

Professional Intensive Drawing and Sketching Bootcamp

What can you expect?

Beginner friendly sketching lessons on subjects like an apple or pear.
Progressively challenging and complex art references like landscapes or nature

During the course, students will:

Understand different tonal values
Practice shading techniques
Acquire observational skills
Understand composition, correct proportions and perspectives for still life drawing

A FREE drawing and sketching kit will be provided. After the 8 weeks, students will also bring home 4 of their artworks.

What can you expect?

Beginner friendly painting lessons on simple landscapes or an arrangement of fruits.
Progressively challenging art references like landscapes or nature

During the course, students will:

Understand basic colour theory
Practice brush stroke and blending techniques
Acquire observational skills
Understand composition, correct proportions and perspectives for still life drawing

FREE art materials will be provided. After the 8 weeks, students will also bring home 2 of their artworks and a small acrylic study to improve on their skills.

This school holiday programme is a good platform for students to build up a small portfolio. It is also a good stepping stone to allow them to learn basic foundational techniques. These will go hand in hand with our Portfolio Preparation Course for DSA.

The Portfolio Preparation Course for DSA is perfect for students applying for local art academies such as Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) , LASALLE College of the Arts, School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA), NUS, NTU or foreign art academies that requires them to prepare a personal art portfolio.

If your child wants to enter their ideal art school, they can add to their artistic talents and enter into the portfolio preparation course. We provide professional training that covers:

3. Professional Holiday Outdoor Urban Landscape Sketching Bootcamp [ 8 Sessions | $698nett ]

This is a guided course by our professional instructor and we will also be going outdoors to capture different life subjects such as trees, bushes and architecture. All art materials will be provided for this course and is suitable for learners from the age of 8 years and above with varying levels of experience!
How will the Bootcamp be conducted?
Bootcamp will be conducted at Dhoby Ghaut Art Studio & MacPherson studio
Our professional Art Instructor will be guiding the kids and teens mostly in the classroom, there will also be stipulated outdoor-time (30-60mins) along the scenic view near the Dhoby Ghaut VAC Art Studio such as Fort Canning, Istana Park and National Museum Singapore. or buildings near MacPherson area
Kids and Teens are recommended to bring their very own hats, insect repellent and water bottles.

In this course, you will learn the following:
Perspective in urban sketching. You’ll learn about one-point, two-point, and three-point perspectives and how to apply them to accurately represent buildings and streets in your sketches.
Composition and Framing learn about how to create dynamic and interesting compositions and capture different types of landscapes
Urban scenes are full of urban elements and details. You’ll study different techniques to draw buildings, windows, doors, street signs to add life and authenticity to your sketches.

5. Introduction to Digital Drawing and Painting Bootcamp [ 5 Sessions | $698nett ]

Digital drawing and digital painting refers to the process of creating artwork using digital tools and software. It involves using a digital drawing tablet or a computer with specialized software such as Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, or Clip Studio Paint, which offers a wide range of brushes, colours, and other digital tools.

In this course, you will learn the following:
These programs provide a digital canvas where artists can create and manipulate their artwork. Digital painting requires traditional painting skills as digital painting artworks are not premade and they are produced through a canvas through the software. With solid foundation of line, colouration, tonal, perspectives and imagination in traditional drawing, this would help to produce digital painting artworks in a more realistic form and present stronger 3D perspective effects.
Digital painting offers several advantages over traditional painting methods. It allows for easy undo and redo, while offering a wide range of digital brushes and effects. It also provides the convenience of working without the need for physical art supplies or extensive cleanup.

Pen pressure is crucial in creating good digital art, as it gives you the option of defining the thickness and heaviness of each stroke as if you are using a real pencil! This adds the feeling of depth to your work, making it more impressive.

6. Introduction to Batik Painting Bootcamp [4 Sessions | $280nett ]

What is Batik Painting?
You do not use pen and paper for batik. Instead, you use cloth instead of paper, and wax instead of ink. When beginning a piece of batik work, you would draw a sketch using pencils of the design desired. Then, you would use a wax funnel – a tjanting, filled with hot melted wax, to trace over the patterns on the cloth. This type of batik painting art is known as batik tulis – which means writing, completely using wax by hand with the tjanting tool. From this batik tjanting method, you can see the changes in the variation in size and shapes of the wax flowing.

7. Introduction to Graffiti Spray Painting on Canvas Bootcamp [ 5 Sessions | $698nett ]

What is Graffiti Spray Painting?
Graffiti art may be created with various tools and methods. The process of making Graffiti include design and conceptualisation, drawing, and painting. Spray painting is seen as the main medium of Graffiti art or Street art. Abound with creativity and expression, Graffiti art is often done as large mural art along streets and has also attracted much attention with the notoriety of famous artists like Banksy. Graffiti art is said to be a unique and expressive form of art that encourages freedom of expression and often uses bold colours, abstraction and icons of society.

In this course, you will learn the following:
Writers (as graffiti artists are often called) employ their unique lettering styles, color combinations, and intricate designs to establish their individual identities. Techniques such as fading, shadowing, and 3D effects are commonly used to enhance the visual impact of graffiti pieces.
Spray paint artists use stencils, masking techniques, and a variety of tools to create intricate and detailed compositions on various surfaces.
Layering – This technique involves applying multiple layers of color and texture to add depth and dimension to the design. This technique can be achieved with the help of stencils or by painting several layers of paint freehand.
Stenciling – This is a popular technique for creating clean and precise designs. Use a cutting tool like a craft knife or laser cutter to make your own stencils, or buy pre-made stencils online or at an art store.
Freehand – This is the simplest technique to create graffiti art and involves using spray paint to create designs and letters freehand. This technique can be difficult to master, but allows for a high level of creativity and spontaneity.

8. Digital Art: Character Costume Design [4 Sessions | $480nett ]

About this Character Costume Design Workshop:
Unleash your creativity and bring characters to life through costume design! In this workshop, participants will learn how to conceptualize and create costumes that reflect their characters’ personalities, story backgrounds, and worlds. You’ll explore different fashion styles, materials, and cultural influences to craft unique and visually stunning costumes.
Character Costume Design involve visually expressing who the character is and how they fit into their world, helping the audience understand the character without needing much dialogue or explanation.

Our Teaching Approach
Visual Arts Centre believes in an academy school approach of art teaching and offers professional art courses and workshops for youths and adults. We believe in empowering our art students with a good art foundation, with any art mediums which we offer in our art courses. Professional art courses such as Drawing and Sketching course, Acrylic Painting course, Oil Painting course, Watercolour Painting course, Chinese ink painting course are our main art mediums of academy school approach art training.

Short term art courses and workshops are offered during the school holidays and various seasons and includes various creative mediums, with seasonal themes that allows learners to pick up new art mediums and creative approaches. Art courses and workshops are conducted in a small group setting at Visual Arts Centre. Depending on the art course or workshop, art learners may be guided in a group setting with individualised coaching, or may be instructed and taught through a step by step approach as a classroom setting.

The duration of each art course and workshop is designed to provide an optimal learning experience for the age group, theme, medium and subject matter.

Validity of the courses are: 8 Sessions – 8 Weeks | 12 Sessions – 12 Weeks. All sessions are to be completed within the course duration stated. No refunds are provided for any courses/workshops/lesson purchased. Further extension of course validity of up to one month only may be provided with proof of overseas travel, hospitalization/medical certificate.

Visual Arts Centre reserves the right to reject/reschedule your lesson if you are late. Visual Arts Centre reserves the right to cancel/reschedule/postpone any course/session without prior notice. In the event that the course is unable to proceed due to unforeseen circumstances, a full refund of the fees will be provided.
