Over the past few days, Visual Arts Centre (VAC) have been hosting a series of art competitions for children and teenagers at the Affordable Art Fair (AAF) 2023, designed to showcase the artistic talents of emerging artists in Singapore!
The Visual Arts Centre will be having a series of art competitions in 2024, with more details to be released in January 2024. Stay tuned!
The theme of this year’s art competition is “Embracing Nature” and we were able to witness talented children and teenagers apply their creativity and art techniques to create beautiful artworks that reflect their artistic interpretation of nature and inspire others to embrace nature.
It is not an easy task to visualise and draw from a complete blank paper and complete it in 90 minutes without any help. Children and teenage participants in this art competition presented complete works of high artistic quality and creativity.
This children and teenager art competition is a collaborative effort between the Visual Arts Centre and the Affordable Art Fair Organizing Committee to ignite the creative spark within children and teenagers.
We would like to thank Mr. Alan Koh, Fair Director of Affordable Art Singapore, for his support in bringing this competition to life. Next, we would like to thank all participants, parents, VAC art instructors and the team of the affordable art fair organizing committee for achieving the organizational meaningful purpose of this live art competition.
This 1.5 hours Children and Teenager art competition was a learning experience and great opportunity for them to compete amongst each other. This was a friendly competition and we would like to maintain good respectful relationships; For children and youth who have won the competition please do not be arrogant, and please do not be disheartened for those who have lost.
The journey of learning and practicing art for every individual is long but it is worth it! Foundational training in basic skills in art will help children and teenagers to enter art schools such as DSA or university courses such as architecture, interior design, animation painters, or become independent artists based on your skills. To pursue this, a solid foundation in basic art skills is required. For those who require extra help, Visual Arts Centre can assist in helping unique artistic paths for your future by learning professional painting techniques and painting knowledge. Our professional art courses are beginners friendly (suitable for students aged 5 and above!), all art materials provided with full professional teacher guidance! Scroll Below!

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
