[12 February 2023, Sunday]
Printmaking for kids is such a great process art activity, it gives kids a chance to explore different textures, colors, and patterns. Printmaking is making art by printing pictures, normally on paper. The advantage of printmaking is that lots of the same picture can be printed. This is called a print. Each print is not a copy, but an original, since it came from the same source (not like painting or drawing).
In this workshop kids will learn how to use everyday material such as the styrofoam plates as the base of printmaking. They will use pencil to draw on the styrofoam and at the same time etch out the desired patterns and drawing. Canvas Tote Bag is then prepped to be printed on using the styrofoam that has been brayer with paint.
This type of art creates such a rich learning experience by giving kids ample opportunities to explore art materials. Kids improve their fine motor skills while exploring materials. And process art activities lend themselves to collaborations where outcomes are child-led and open-ended.

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
