Inked Affinities A Siaw-Tao Collaborative Showcase
Our inspiration for the collaborative creation of works originates from ancient times. Looking back, this tradition of collaborative works has a long history rooted in generations of practice.
Common forms of collaboration include: multiple individuals completing a painting, followed by one person adding calligraphic inscriptions. In modern times, collaborative works can also involve multiple people completing a calligraphy piece or multiple seal carvers stamping their seals on the same piece of work.
In Inked Affinities: A Siaw-Tao Collaborative Showcase, our members were encouraged to add their marks on another member’s piece of work, designated at random. We aim to bring together various creative elements and styles, sparking intriguing new ideas.

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
