A World in a Grain of Sand

Overview

Join us at the 29th September, 3pm at the opening of exhibition A World in a Grain of Sand, featuring the collaboration between artist collective MICA and renown Mosaic brand Bizen, supported by China Art Foundation. This is a great opportunity to learn about the unique art technique, mosaic, and also get hands-on experience completing a participatory art sculpture with the guidance of our mosaic experts.

All of the works displayed in this exhibition are made from natural materials such as glass and sandstone, which have been hand-baked and assembled into mosaics. This exhibition begins on a scale as small as a grain of sand or a single mosaic tile. Slowly, subtly, persistently, and introspectively, it reveals itself. MICA and Bizen, in their retrospective field, invite the audience to take part — to explore themselves, explore nature, and explore the world.

Light refreshment will be provided during the opening.

“一沙一世界”将于9月29日在新加坡视觉艺术中心开幕。展览中的所有作品均由MICA(李捷 王长兴 贺亮)用琉璃、沙石等自然材料和手工烧制、堆砌、镶嵌形成。此次展览旨在从一粒沙切入，探索自身、自然、世界。

MICA(Mini Idea Creative Art)由李捷、王长兴、贺亮三位艺术家发起，本着芥子纳须弥的理念，从微小元素、材料和想法切入，通过艺术引发对自身、自然以及宏观意义的思考。MICA同时也是一个谈话场和试验场，它不仅呈现了三位发起人相识二十年以来相同的和迥异的艺术观和世界观的思辨以及对话，也在每一次展览中邀请观众的介入，参与实验和对谈。

此次展览是MICA与和贝尊镶嵌艺术的首次合作，由贝尊镶嵌艺术文化传播有限公司主办，中国艺术发展基金会学术支持。李捷与贝尊的文祺在云南大嘎吉村的艺术支教的“瞳画”项目相识：“感叹她在镶嵌艺术这个‘无际’的世界中的不断努力，面对一个个小颗粒的不断反复试验和探索，也欣赏她在支教时一件件小事中的默默助人，不知为何总让人想到金刚经的“种种子”。有一天看到她在仔仔细细画农村墙头的一堵砖时，我想MICA和贝尊是应该一起做点什么的。”

德籍华人艺术家、学者、策展人李捷形容《一沙一世界》意在描述沙中的隐藏世界，正如华严经所说的“微尘中有剎海，剎海中复有微尘，如是重重，不可穷尽”。在一粒沙中看到世界、在刹那间经历永恒，前者讲的是空间视野(尺度)的转变，后者说的是时间视野的转变。人生的修行无非是让我们内心的视野收放自如。

“一沙一世界”源自于对“维度”的思考。一件三维的艺术品，可以是雕塑、装置，每一维代表一条线或是一个方向。“线”的维度是1，面的维度是2，立体的维度是3，而隐藏的维度在越小越精细的尺度下，越能看得清楚。例如一粒沙子，在放大一百倍，一万倍以至一百亿倍后，它的沙粒外型会重复出现。就是沙粒中有微沙粒，而微沙粒中又有微微沙粒，如此一个包含一个，逐渐缩小，没有穷尽。

World of Manga [Foundation & Styling]

A manga art workshop for children and teenagers sounds like a fantastic idea! Here’s how you might structure it:
Introduction to Manga: Begin by introducing what manga is, its history, and its influence on popular culture worldwide. Show examples of different manga styles and genres to give participants an overview.
Basic Drawing Techniques: Start with the fundamentals of drawing, such as line work, shapes, and proportions. Provide step-by-step instructions on how to draw basic manga characters, focusing on simple shapes that can be built upon.
Character Design: Move on to character design concepts, including creating unique characters, designing their personalities, and developing backstories. Encourage participants to get creative and think outside the box.
Expression and Emotion: Teach how to convey emotions and expressions through facial expressions, body language, and positioning of characters. This can be a fun and interactive exercise where participants practice drawing various emotions.

Academy Drawing Traditions

Originating from Renaissance workshops and formalized by institutions like the Royal Academy, it prioritizes meticulous observation and mastery of fundamental skills. Students progress from basic exercises to complex compositions, learning to depict still life and common objects with precision and expression. Chinese Ink Painting and Calligraphy

This course on Chinese ink painting and calligraphy introduces young learners to the rich traditions of Chinese art. Through hands-on activities, students explore the basics of brush techniques, ink control, and the delicate art of Chinese script. They learn to appreciate the cultural significance of calligraphy and painting, developing skills in creating elegant strokes and expressive brushwork. Funk with Graffiti

Funk With Graffiti Workshop for children is an engaging and creative program aimed at introducing young artists to the vibrant world of graffiti and funk-inspired street style art. Participants learn the basics of graffiti history, techniques, and safety. Guided by professional graffiti artists, children explore the art of designing their unique tags, emphasizing creativity, expression, and individuality. The workshop includes hands-on activities, from sketching concepts to creating final designs with spray paint on provided surfaces. By the end of the session, children gain confidence in their artistic abilities and an appreciation for graffiti and funk as legitimate forms of street art. Each child completes two original artworks, which they proudly take home, showcasing their newfound skills and personal style.

Batik Tales

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
