Visual Arts Centre proudly partners the Affordable Art Fair as the Official Art Studio to provide a range of art workshops and fair activities from 18 to 20 November 2022

Suitable for all ages, participate in various fun drop-in activities such as the Rangoli Drawing & Design Activity Booth, or register for free and paid workshop sessions available at various schedules such as Urban Landscape Sketching and Illustration Workshop, Still Life Drawing and Sketching Workshop, themed Chinese Ink Painting Workshops, Journaling and Illustration Workshop, Expressive Landscape Acrylic Painting Workshop, and a specially curated life drawing programme – the Adam & Eve Life Drawing Workshop just for the Arty-licious evening on 18 Nov from 6pm-9pm

Rangolis are usually created and placed at the entrance of homes for good luck and happiness. Suitable for kids (six and up) and adults of all ages, visit the Rangoli Drawing and Design DIY Activity Booth to explore drawing rangoli patterns and bring home your own Rangoli art card!

Create your own Singapore Shophouse postcard through drawing your colouring. Unleash your creative and design inspirations and complete your own shophouse illustration! This drop in activitiy is family friendly. Only available during the Private view evening, register in-person at the booth ( when you arrive at the fair – The Art Studio at Creative Hub: Room E, or drop in to join this activity from 6pm-8pm. Learn and pick up quick sketching and illustration techniques in this one hour workshop, and practise urban landscape sketching on a range of common landscape subjects such as the trees and common plants, corner of a street, stone pavement and a house. Complete a few urban sketches on your own and acquire an understanding of perspective in the observation of landscape. All materials are provided and include pencils, paper, eraser, penliner.

Take a fast forward approach to still life drawing and sketching in this one hour workshop. Pick up useful tips on still life observation and learn to establish form and composition in your drawing. Gain an understanding and practice on drawing and sketching techniques in this one hour workshop. By observing a still life display arrangement comprising of a vase, a fruit, and other common subjects, be guided on the approach to still life drawing and sketching and complete a work at the end of the session. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. All materials are provided and include a range of pencils, drawing paper and eraser.

Arty-licious Evening Special: Adam & Eve – Life Drawing Workshop [Pre-registration required] [$38/pax]

Once curious, twice as shy? Be bold and unbashful about life drawing and try this fun and creative Adam & Eve Life Drawing Workshop, where a male and female model take on the role of “Adam” and “Eve” dressed artfully in toga and drapes and challenging various poses throughout the session.

With a choice of your sketch materials – be it charcoal, soft pastel, pencil or pen, freely explore figure drawing and appeal to your artistic senses in this session. An art instructor will be guiding and providing ample tips during the session on composition and quick sketching techniques, hence feel free to ask for any help during the session.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and teenagers sixteen and above may join with parental approval. *There is no nudity involved in this session. Participants can look forward to a fun and rigorous session of guided quick figure sketching and walk home with completed sketches.

All art materials for the session is provided and covered within the workshop fee of $38/pax. (50% of the workshop fees will be donated to the supporting charity partner – Singapore Cancer Society.) This is a special workshop programme for the Arty-licious evening on 18 Nov and runs for two sessions at 6pm-7:20pm and 7:30pm-8:50pm.

Explore and immerse in the art of Chinese ink painting and learn the classical subjects of The Four Gentlemen. Signifying traditional Chinese virtues and values such as like uprightness, purity, humility and perseverance – The Four Gentlemen – Plum Blossoms, Orchids, Bamboo and Chrysanthemum is an essential foundation to the practise of Chinese ink painting. By the end of the session, you’ll complete your very own mounted fan painting to bring home. All art materials are included.

World of Manga [Foundation & Styling]

A manga art workshop for children and teenagers sounds like a fantastic idea! Here’s how you might structure it:
Introduction to Manga: Begin by introducing what manga is, its history, and its influence on popular culture worldwide. Show examples of different manga styles and genres to give participants an overview.
Basic Drawing Techniques: Start with the fundamentals of drawing, such as line work, shapes, and proportions. Provide step-by-step instructions on how to draw basic manga characters, focusing on simple shapes that can be built upon.
Character Design: Move on to character design concepts, including creating unique characters, designing their personalities, and developing backstories. Encourage participants to get creative and think outside the box.

Chinese Ink Painting and Calligraphy

Funk with Graffiti

Funk With Graffiti Workshop for children is an engaging and creative program aimed at introducing young artists to the vibrant world of graffiti and funk-inspired street style art. Participants learn the basics of graffiti history, techniques, and safety. Guided by professional graffiti artists, children explore the art of designing their unique tags, emphasizing creativity, expression, and individuality. The workshop includes hands-on activities, from sketching concepts to creating final designs with spray paint on provided surfaces. By the end of the session, children gain confidence in their artistic abilities and an appreciation for graffiti and funk as legitimate forms of street art. Each child completes two original artworks, which they proudly take home, showcasing their newfound skills and personal style.

Batik Tales

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia.
