Getting started with Digital Art: Beginners Tips and Tricks!

What is Digital Art?
Digital art is a broad term that encompasses various forms of artistic expression created using digital technology. It involves the use of computers, specialized software, and other digital tools to produce visual or interactive art. Digital art can take various forms, including 2D illustrations, 3D sculptures, animations, digital paintings, virtual reality experiences, and more. This medium allows artists to explore a wide range of styles and techniques, offering new possibilities for creativity and artistic expression.

Choosing a device and software!

1. Laptop Users:
– Free software like Krita or ArtWeaver can be excellent starting points for beginners.
– If you have the budget, Adobe Photoshop is widely used in the digital art community for its powerful features and versatility.

2. iPad Users:
– Free apps like IbisPaint or MediBang work well on iPads.
– If you have the budget, Procreate is highly recommended for its user-friendly interface and advanced features.

Advantages of Digital Art!

Versatility and Experimentation: Digital art allows artists to experiment with various styles and techniques easily, from traditional painting and drawing to 3D modeling and animation, without the need for different physical materials.

Non-Destructive Editing: Artists can make unlimited changes to their work without damaging the original, thanks to features like layers and undo/redo functions, offering greater flexibility and room for creativity. ENDLESS UNDOs

Cost-Efficiency: Digital art reduces the cost of art supplies since there’s no need to purchase physical materials like canvases, paints, or brushes. The initial investment in hardware and software can often be more cost-effective in the long run.

All-in-One Workspace: Digital art consolidates all artistic materials into one software, eliminating the need for physical storage and making everything easily accessible from a single device. Digital art also offers various tools and shortcuts to speed up the drawing process, such as selecting, transforming, and duplicating elements with ease.

Common mistakes!

Many artists make the mistake of using black and simply lowering the opacity when painting shadows, which is WRONG. It’s important to consider factors like colour temperature, subsurface scattering, bounce light, and ambient occlusion to create more realistic shadows. Understanding these principles is crucial for achieving good lighting in art.

Composition in art involves arranging visual elements to create a visually pleasing and impactful artwork. It guides the viewer’s eye to the FOCUS and conveys the artist’s message.

Many artists encounter difficulties with human anatomy and maintaining accurate proportions in their work. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, tackling this fundamental aspect of art is common. To improve, observe real-life subjects and references. By actively observing and internalizing these proportions, artists can improve their understanding of the human form in their artwork.
