어린 시절, 우리는 모두 무언가를 만드는 것을 좋아했습니다 – 종이 비행기를 접어 누가 가장 멀리 날아가는지 경쟁하거나, 플라스틱이나 에어 클레이로 작은 추상적인 조각을 만드는 것 등 말이죠. 수학 시험에서 기억해야 할 수많은 단계와 달리, 여기에는 엄격한 규칙이 없습니다. 우리는 단순히 자신이 정말로 좋아하는 것을 만들 수 있는 자유를 누릴 수 있습니다. 아이들의 창의성과 상상력은 전혀 경계가 없습니다. 그들이 성장하면서 이를 모두 잃기 전에, 이를 키우는 것이 중요하며, 무엇보다도 부모들이 아이들이 가능한 한 자유롭게 꿈꾸고 상상하도록 허용하는 것이 가장 중요합니다! 아니요, 이는 아이들이 예술을 배우면 언젠가 다음 반 고흐나 피카소가 될 것이라는 의미는 아닙니다.

이것은 단순히 아이들이 마음을 편안하게 하고, 자신을 표현할 수 있도록 하며, 긴 문장을 말할 수 있기 전에라도 무언가에 자부심을 느낄 수 있는 기회를 주는 것입니다. 이제 당신은 궁금해할 수도 있겠죠, 왜 그들은 어릴 때부터 시작해야 할까요? 모든 아이들이 예술을 사랑하고 배우고 싶어한다고 가정하는 것이 조금은 주제넘은 것 아닌가요? 아이들은 자신이 원하는 것이 무엇인지 정말로 알고 있을까요?

무엇을 배우든, 많은 사람들이 아이들에게 정확한 자료를 제공하고 정확히 무엇을 해야 하는지 알려주는 것이 가장 좋다고 생각할 수 있습니다. 수학이나 과학 같은 과목에는 이 방법이 효과적일 수 있지만, 예술에는 그렇지 않습니다. 아이들에게 다양한 형태의 자료를 제공하고 열린 결말로 남겨두세요 – 그들이 원하는 것을 결정하고, 목표나 머릿속에 그린 이미지를 달성하기 위해 자료를 어떻게 조작할지 스스로 결정하게 하세요. 이 방법은 그들이 원하는 것을 만들기 위해 어떻게 해야 할지 고민하는 과정에서 문제 해결 능력을 향상시킬 뿐만 아니라, 학교의 다른 과목에서는 경험할 수 없는 방식으로 아이들을 참여하게 합니다. 가장 중요한 것은, 이 과정이 그들의 자신감을 키우고 자신의 창작물에 대한 믿음을 기르는 데 기여한다는 점입니다. 예술을 배우는 것은 아이들이 앞으로 절실히 필요로 할 도구를 제공하는 것입니다.

모든 사람은 서로 다른 능력을 가지고 있으며, 모두 다릅니다. 예술은 아이들이 다양한 것을 시도해보고 자신이 정말 잘하는 것을 발견할 수 있도록 합니다 – 색상에 능숙한가요? 비례감에 대한 감각이 있을 수도 있죠? 아이들은 자신이 잘하는 것에 관심을 갖게 되며, 다행히 예술은 연습을 통해 개선될 수 있습니다. 그들이 즐기는 매체를 찾아 연습한다면, 그들은 개선될 것입니다. 때로는 그들이 어떤 것에 서툴다고 해서 그 일을 할 수 없다는 의미는 아니라는 것을 알아야 합니다(적어도 예술에서는). 그저 아직 자신에게 가장 잘 맞는 방법을 찾지 못했을 뿐입니다. 계속 시도하고 결국 제대로 해내는 과정을 통해 자신의 능력에 대한 신뢰를 키우고, 미래의 많은 도전들을 극복하는 데 도움이 될 것입니다.

4. 미세 운동 능력과 대근육 운동 능력

우리는 모두 아이들이 걸을 수도 기를 수도 있기 전에 뛰기를 기대할 수는 없겠죠? 예술은 아이들이 매우 어린 나이부터 신체와 뇌를 동시에 사용할 수 있도록 돕는 과정이나 도구와도 같습니다. 종이에 처음 그리는 끄적임이나 의미 없는 추상적인 조각들은 아무 의미가 없을 수도 있습니다. 그러나 적절한 도구, 즉 이 경우 예술을 통해 그 의미 없는 끄적임은 강렬한 선으로 변모하고 종이 위에 이야기가 서서히 형성될 것입니다. 예술을 통해 습득한 미세 운동 능력과 대근육 운동 능력은 아이들에게 학습의 출발점을 제공하며, 미래의 추가 학습을 위해 뇌를 준비시켜 줄 것입니다!

World of Manga [Foundation & Styling]
A manga art workshop for children and teenagers sounds like a fantastic idea! Here’s how you might structure it:
Introduction to Manga: Begin by introducing what manga is, its history, and its influence on popular culture worldwide. Show examples of different manga styles and genres to give participants an overview.
Basic Drawing Techniques: Start with the fundamentals of drawing, such as line work, shapes, and proportions. Provide step-by-step instructions on how to draw basic manga characters, focusing on simple shapes that can be built upon.
Character Design: Move on to character design concepts, including creating unique characters, designing their personalities, and developing backstories. Encourage participants to get creative and think outside the box.
Expression and Emotion: Teach how to convey emotions and expressions through facial expressions, body language, and positioning of characters. This can be a fun and interactive exercise where participants practice drawing various emotions.

Funk with Graffiti
Funk With Graffiti Workshop for children is an engaging and creative program aimed at introducing young artists to the vibrant world of graffiti and funk-inspired street style art. Participants learn the basics of graffiti history, techniques, and safety. Guided by professional graffiti artists, children explore the art of designing their unique tags, emphasizing creativity, expression, and individuality. The workshop includes hands-on activities, from sketching concepts to creating final designs with spray paint on provided surfaces. By the end of the session, children gain confidence in their artistic abilities and an appreciation for graffiti and funk as legitimate forms of street art. Each child completes two original artworks, which they proudly take home, showcasing their newfound skills and personal style.
Batik Tales

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.

  1. Participation
    • Participation in the Neon Glow Art Jamming & Colour Blast Party is voluntary. By participating, all participants acknowledge that they understand and accept the nature of the activities and agree to participate at their own risk.
  2. Health & Safety
    • The event takes place in an outdoor festival environment featuring bright lighting effects, flashing lights, amplified music, and high sound levels, which may not be suitable for individuals who are sensitive to light, sound, or have related medical conditions.
    • Participants are responsible for ensuring that they are medically fit to participate in the activities.
  3. Colour Blast Party
    • The Colour Blast Party uses coloured cornflour powder.
    • By participating in the Colour Blast Party, participants confirm that they:
      • Do not have any known allergy or sensitivity to cornflour, corn, coloured powder, or similar materials.
      • Do not suffer from asthma, respiratory conditions, or any medical condition that may be aggravated by airborne powder.
      • Understand the nature of the activity and voluntarily choose to participate.
  4. Face & Body Painting
    • Optional face and/or body painting may be available during the event.
    • Participants choosing to receive face or body painting confirm that they have no known allergies or skin conditions that may be affected by cosmetic or body paint products. Participants with sensitive skin are advised to refrain from participating.
  5. Assumption of Risk
    • Participants acknowledge that participation in the event, including but not limited to art jamming, the Colour Blast Party, face and/or body painting, and related activities, carries inherent risks, including accidental slips, falls, minor injuries, allergic reactions, respiratory irritation, or other unforeseen incidents.
  6. Indemnity and Release
    • By participating in the event, participants agree, to the fullest extent permitted by law, to release, discharge, and indemnify Visual Arts Centre, CHIJMES, their respective officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, sponsors, partners, and representatives from any and all claims, demands, liabilities, losses, damages, costs, expenses, injuries, or actions arising out of or in connection with participation in the event, except where such claims arise directly from the negligence or wilful misconduct of the organisers.
  7. Personal Responsibility
    • Participants are responsible for their own personal belongings and should exercise reasonable care while participating. Appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for an outdoor event are recommended.
  8. Organiser's Rights
    • Visual Arts Centre and CHIJMES reserve the right to refuse participation or remove any participant whose behaviour is deemed unsafe, disruptive, or poses a risk to others. The organisers also reserve the right to modify, postpone, suspend, or cancel the event due to weather, safety concerns, or unforeseen circumstances.
