The Association of Artists of Various Resources, or Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya (APAD), is proud to present ‘Contemporary 2016′ – an exhibition that showcases works by members of APAD. This annual exhibition reflects the diversity in art practices and approaches of the multi-generation membership inspired by APAD’s long history. This year’s exhibition compromises of artworks from members of APAD, as well as two established guest artists.
This exhibition is also tied together with a competition which urges artists to further inspire each other. Three winners will be announced on 18 June 2016 and each will receive a prize under the award category of ‘Best of Show’ (Public Choice) and another two‘Merit Prize’ (Public Choice). A ‘Jury Prize’ will also be awarded to give recognition to a particular work based on high artistic merits.

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
