Singapore’s Visual Art Centre is an art centre supported by the National Park Board. Since its launch in January 2016, it has offered Professional Courses from Oil painting, Drawing and Sketching, Acrylic painting, Watercolor, and Chinese ink painting. The Visual Arts Centre provides a variety of tailored custom made art workshops from Batik painting, totebag painting, T-shirts painting, Scarf Handkerchief painting, Graffiti, Bachelorette Hen’s Nights, Birthday parties, and art workshops with various themes.
Batik Painting workshop in Singapore has become a means of artistic expression for many people in Asia and has become deeply entrenched in the Asian culture. Batik is done when hot wax beads or blocks are melted over fire. The hot wax is then scooped up with the canting and used to draw on the fabric. Fabric dyes is then painted on the fabric, with the applied wax resisting the dyes. When the colouring is completed, remove the applied wax by submerging the cloth in boiling water, hairdryer or using an iron to melt the wax.
This creative workshop requires no formal knowledge or background in art, we ask only for your passion and interest in the subject. Batik painting is a unique heritage of Southeast Asia and produces wonderful results. Not only is Batik easy to learn, but anyone can use the technique to produce beautiful pieces of art. Not to mention, during our workshop, you will be introduced to such techniques by our professionally trained teachers. Our instructor will demonstrate how to use the wax before guiding the students individually to avoid confusion. Furthermore, you’ll receive step by step guidance from the teachers to create exactly what you envisioned.

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
