Overview

Tokoname city, Aichi Prefecture In Japan is one of the “Rokkoyo” (the famous six oldest pottery centers in Japan, which are “Biden”,”Tanba”, “Shigaraki”, “Seto”, “Echizen”, and “Tokoname”) and has been proved livingware like pots, jars, and tableware since over 1,000 years. Even today, many ceramic artists create their modern works in this historic  pottery production place. They have held “IWCAT“ (The  Exchange committee of the International  Workshop of Ceramic Art in Tokoname)  for one month every summer from 1985 to 2012. A total of almost 400 artist from about 40 countries participated in IWCAT  and intermingle together. This exhibition is intended for artist in Singapore and Tokoname  to create innovative artistic value is by having deeper cultural and historic interchange. Many works from young artists in both Singapore and Tokoname will be displayed in this exhibition.

Local established and emerging ceramists are invited based on their perceptive understanding of the medium. This exchange exhibition will be proudly graced by the presence of Mr. Sugie Koji, chairman for the Tokoname Ceramic Society as well as founding member of International Workshop Ceramic Art of Tokoname. Other featured artists include Mr. Low Steven, a renowned local ceramist who is known internationally, and Mr. Lim Nelson, an award-winning ceramist.

Over the weekend, the series of artists’ talks and open discussion will offer unique opportunity to exchange thoughts provoking insights, which will foster the cultural understanding between local and Japanese counterparts. Witnessing these discussion first-hand will also promotes the value of ceramic ware.

One of the highly anticipated highlights will be hands-on workshop for public. New learners will get in-depth understanding of artistic concept and learn now technical skill. While hand pinching workshop are especially popular with children and adult, there will be events to cater for young at heart and silver generation.
