Synopsis

This exhibition is an accumulation of years of artworks by emerging calligrapher U Ham. Titled “向阳而生“,this collection features artworks under 4 major themes, “Family”, “Optimism”, “Resilience” and “Future”, all intertwined with the aim of this exhibition: raising funds for Daughters of Tomorrow, to empower underprivileged women struggling to achieve financial independency. A variety of fonts and sizes are explored in this collection, including “行书”,“楷书” as well as creative experimentations with different shades of ink and the addition of paint. A personal favourite of U Ham is “感恩” which was specially created for Mother’s day. The background is a poem “游子吟“ written using a fainter shade of grey to praise and appreciate the efforts of the mothers in this world, who are always tirelessly supporting their children while the words “感恩“ in the foreground brings out the main theme of gratitude. Other notable pieces include “知足常乐“ which won the grand prize at an international exhibition.
