Visual Arts Centre adopts art academic style teaching approach with comprehensive art curriculum under the guidance of art teachers graduated from fine arts academies.
We had designed & tailored drawing and sketching art course for Children & Kids (7-9YO & 10-12YO) and Youths & Teenagers (13-17YO), providing professional sketching training. The curriculum is rich and varied, starting from the beginner level to intermediate to more advanced levels.
This highly professional drawing and sketching art course lay a solid foundation for kids (7-9YO), children (10-12YO) preparing for DSA (Direct School Admission) Visual Arts under DSA-Sec and or DSA-SOTA, Art Elective Programme (AEP), or National Junior College (NJC) and youths, teenagers (13-17YO) preparing for Diploma or Degree or Master with Art related course to become artists and pursue artistic careers in the future.

7-9YO: Cultivating interest in art- sketching through Fun and Engaging session with beginner level
Mastering Basic Line and Shape Recognition, and Establishing Observation Habits
1. Lines and Pen Holding: Practice straight lines, curves, wavy lines, and lines of varying weight. Use the “Line Transformation” game to connect with everyday objects.
2. Geometric Shape Recognition: Deconstruct the geometric components of everyday objects (e.g., apple = circle, book = rectangle). Use geometric shapes to draw small objects (stationery, fruit, toys).
3. Light and Shadow Introduction: Observe the changes in light and shadow on objects using a flashlight. Learn simple coloring techniques, distinguish between light and dark areas, and allow the use of colored pencils to reduce monotony.
4. Creative Expansion: Add fun elements to sketches (draw a smiley face on an apple, add patterns to a cup) to enhance imagination.

10-12YO: Advanced Stage of Basic Sketching
Training basic modeling skills, mastering perspective and light and shadow principles, and improving sketching ability.
1. Introduction to Perspective Principles: Learning one-point perspective (e.g., road extension, room layout), applying it to sketching cubes and cylinders, understanding the visual principle of objects appearing larger when closer and smaller when farther away. Understanding the principles of perspective.
2. Five Tonal Scales: Systematically learning highlights, light areas, mid-tones, dark areas, and shadows, using 2B-6B pencils to represent the three-dimensionality of plaster geometric shapes (cubes, spheres, cones).
3. Still Life Composition Sketching: Transitioning from single still life objects to combined still life objects (apple + cup + book), learning composition techniques (triangular composition, diagonal composition), and handling the primary and secondary relationships between objects.
4. Quick Sketching Practice: Using still life quick sketching to train observation speed and line summarization ability.
Learning contents and objectives for Children & Kids (13-17YO) Drawing & Sketching – Professional Art Course
13-17YO: Advanced Stage in Sketching
Learning and mastering figure sketching and creation, suitable for students preparing art portfolios for college entrance exams.
1. Plaster Cast Drawing: Starting with details of facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, ears), progressing to complete plaster cast heads such as David, Voltaire, and Marseille. Learning the influence of skeletal and muscular structure on light and shadow.
2. Basic Figure Sketching: Learning human proportions, practicing figure head sketching, and mastering techniques for depicting face shape, hairstyle, and expression.
3. Landscape Sketching: Learning landscape composition and spatial layering, mastering different drawing techniques for foreground, middle ground, and background, and expressing the textural differences of trees, buildings, mountains, rivers, rocks, and beaches.
4. Creative Sketch: Creating sketches based on themes (such as “A Corner of the School” or “My Family”), incorporating personal style, suitable for art specialty student exams or portfolio production.

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
