What is the Art of Batik Painting?

Batik is an ancient Indonesian art form with a thousand years of heritage. It is done by first–using a tjanting tool to apply hot wax onto cloth before dye is painted onto the fabric. It creates a natural, distinctive motif and pattern form. Every shape bears the touch of human hands; no two batik pieces are ever the same. Our designs are not premade or prewaxed, each customised batik mural is made by professional artists who walk with you through the whole creative process to build your specialised batik mural artwork from scratch.

Our Custom Batik Mural Artwork Process

1. Consultation & Discussion

The Introduction: Forming the Design

We begin with a consultation to learn about the household/family member’s preferences and preferred colours. We will discuss with you relevant family stories to implement into the design, such as: cherished trips, beloved pets, favourite flowers and meaningful symbols/motifs which can all be sources of inspiration for the design. We will weave your little family stories into the composition and draft custom sketches. After rounds of discussion and revisions, we refine the design until it matches your vision of home.

2. Artist Begins their Work

The Magic Begins: Creation of the Artwork

Once the design is finalised, our artists will begin with the process of creating your Custom Batik Mural. Our artist melts the wax, and draws out the outlines with the tjanting tool with the wax. After this is done, dye is applied to the fabric to set the colours and lastly the wax is removed. Pigments flow freely across the fabric, forming special one‑of‑a‑kind hand‑made textures. The finished artwork will be beautifully framed and delivered to your home, ready to hang in your living room, bedroom, study, dining area or where you wish.

When guests stop to admire it, you can point out its details: someone’s favourite flower, a memorable trip, or the shared wishes of your family. Blending traditional Southeast Asian craft with your personal family narrative, this batik mural will become a tangible keepsake — a deeply meaningful work of art.
