dwell:ing

6 June to 8 June 2016

DWELL x VAC-08

From 6 – 8 June 2016, open daily from 11am-8pm, LUDO Gallery presents dwell:ing by Shin-young Park at Visual Arts Centre. dwell:ing draws inspiration from shared public spaces and buildings in Singapore. Shin-young has chosen two different mediums to create the works for dwell:ing – the series of Housing Development Board works are photographic whilst the layered pieces depict a myriad of natural and man-made objects using screen-printing of metal and paper. Shin-Young’s multilayered artworks encourage us to rethink our current perspectives on the structures and buildings around us, and also remind the viewer to enjoy the places and spaces that we share together.

Official Opening: 7 June 2016, 6:30pm (Tues)

Exhibition dates: 6 June to 8 June 2016, 11am – 8pm daily

Venue: Visual Arts Centre

Shing-young Park was born in Seoul, Korea and has lived in New Zealand from 1991-2006. Completing her Bachelor and Master degrees in Fine Arts at the Elam School of Fine Art at the University of Auckland, her initial works focused on her Korean heritage. After her move to New Zealand, her works encompassed more her experiences as an ethnic minority in New Zealand, reflecting sociopolitical issues and experiences. Her move to Singapore in 2006 evolved her art to reflect the rich and diverse environment of her new home, earning her the vote of Most Outstanding Emerging Artist by ARTSingapore. Her experience in different countries enables her to develop thought-provoking artworks that exhibits negativeness of discrimination and racism, and also artworks that appreciate multiculturalism in this increasingly globalised world we live in.
